Extreme ways are back again

Stephanie Bottrill’s suicide noteExtremism has shaken Britain to its core.

Two men have done their best to destroy the very fabric of our society. Their callous, extreme acts, have been witnessed by many and been condemned across the land.

Yet there they are, these two extremists, sitting comfortably in their Downing Street offices, plotting their next act of terror.

Who will David Cameron and George Osborne target next?

They’ve already made those cheapskate students pay three times more for daring to get a higher education.

They’ve hunted down and destroyed those evil council house residents who dare to have a spare room.

They’ve hired a French IT company to weed out the lazy hypochondriacs who exaggerate their lost limbs and their cancers and their learning disabilities to swipe a few more quid from the government.

They’ve closed hospitals and given the money they’ve saved to private healthcare providers.

They’ve put a cap on benefits so that they and their rich friends will no longer have to pinch their noses because the smelly poor people are living too close to them.

They’ve cut legal aid so that defendants who can’t afford decent lawyers won’t get a fair trial.

They’ve sold weapons to corrupt regimes.

And in the three years these extremists have been in government they’ve given £852million in subsidies to the producers of fuels which are cooking the planet.

They’ve done all this at the same time as giving tax reductions for the companies that get rich at our expense, as well as slashing income tax rates for the millionaires who own and run them.

That’s pretty extreme. An extreme attack on our civilised society. A slice to the throat of our democracy. A fatal stab to the heart of our nation’s future.

So, who’s next in this extreme wave of terror?

This Saturday, Cameron and Osborne will be loading their guns. They’ll be going out to Somerset and Gloucestershire, to hunt. They’ll be out to find and kill a creature they don’t want to eat because they claim it is spreading disease to other creatures that they do want to eat.

They’ll be shooting badgers.

But wait! Haven’t these free-market fundamentalists done enough harm already? Shouldn’t they have been deposed by now? Shouldn’t they be in jail? Shouldn’t they be rotting in Hell?

In the words of Moby:

Extreme ways are back again
Extreme places I didn’t know
I broke everything new again
Everything that I’d owned
I threw it out the windows, came along
Extreme ways I know move apart
The colours of my sea
Perfect colour me

Extreme ways that help me
That help me out late at night
Extreme places I had gone
But never seen any light
Dirty basements, dirty noise
Dirty places coming through
Extreme worlds alone
Did you ever like it then

I would stand in line for this
There’s always room in life for this

Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Like it always does, always does.”
